Ijede Local Council Development Area (LCDA) under the administration of Hon. Motuntayo Gbadebo – Alogba, its Executive Chairman, on Monday, hosted its maiden World Tourism Day (WTD) celebration staging cultural performances and tours.
The celebration was organised in partnership with Lagos State Ferry Service (LagFerry) and Tarzan Boats.
The 2025 edition of the WTD celebration was themed, “Tourism and Sustainable Transformation”.

The event highlighted Ijede’s vibrant cultural heritage with captivating performances by traditional masquerades such as Epa and Igunnuko. But beyond the cultural displays, participants also embarked on tours of coastal areas, heritage homes, Caverton Marine Boat Yard, and the Itoomu Island Community, showcasing the area’s natural beauty and tourism potential.
In his remarks, the Vice Chairman of Ijede LCDA, Hon. Femi Kabir, who stood in for the council chairman, described the celebration as a long-awaited platform for Ijede to showcase its natural endowments and rich untapped tourism potential, particularly in water transportation.

“We remain committed to harnessing our unique heritage, waterfronts, and cultural treasures to attract investment, create jobs, and complement Lagos’ tourism roadmap,” the Vice Chairman said.
The well-attended celebration brought together traditionalists, community leaders, and key stakeholders, providing an avenue to promote and patronise community-based tourism.
